Plants and animals are in varying degrees of
awareness, so they are spirits too. So have said
all the legends and myths of all all the native
peoples of the Earth through all time.

ANIMALS are spirits. So are plants. I too am an
animal in the world. We are brothers and sisters.

"Not to hurt our humble brethren (the animals) is
our first duty to them, but to stop there is not
enough. We have a higher mission - to be of
service to them whenever they require it. If you
have men who will exclude any of God's creatures
from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will
have men who will deal likewise with their fellow
men."

TO BE LOST It's cold on my feet. Where is there
some water? My body feels empty and sore. Maybe
there is food over there... Keep looking, keep on
going. There is a cut on my foot. My fur is thin.
Maybe I should sleep now... Where is a warm place?
Keep looking... I am lost, I am so hungry, so
lonely. Please, God, is there a place fore me?
Keep looking...

SAVE THE WHALES

There can be no better spokesperson for saving the
whales than a whale himself. We saw Shamu at Sea
World in San Diego, California. To see this great
water mammal perform with love and care for his
trainers, and theirs for him, is a truly awe
inspiring sight which eventually tugs at our
heart, no matter how hardened by our everyday
world. Shamu's, and the other whales and dolphins
and sea lions, performances are truly an act of
communications with us humans, heart shakra to
heart shakra, including their antics. They are
acts of love. -- Ivan A.

the mind is that part of the universe that can
interact with itself. it is how the who, or it,
or that, looks back upon itself. it is ego and
detachment and being. it is the swaying of the
sea kelp, or the rhythm of the waves beneath a
darkening sky. mind is a dream that creates
itself.

By Brother Michael on Wednesday, April 4, 2001 - 03:13 am:

Friends,

Why is it assumed that awareness is the substance
of spirit? Awareness, habeas mentem, is
awareness, usually mind.

What a different being we, for example, would
be if spirit were all aware, and particularly
consciously aware rather than partially aware
in subconscious and unconscious as we draw
lines in the spectra. . .

If plants and animals were aware in the human
senses (including cerebration), they would
merely be human. Their very full spirits
are plant and animal spirits. So are bacterial
spirits, viral spirits, fungal spirits, and
the newer kingdoms our biological recognition
has established. Our host people on this
continent are talented, conversing with rock
spirits, water spirits (regardless of suspended
life within the water) and so many more.

Mind, Shamu, may be a dream which creates
itself; so is spirit, even entirely without
mind.

In the sacrality of sacred spirit which
temporarily animates my electric mind,

Your Brother Michael

Artificial Spirits?

If your mind recognizes minds in others,
and your spirit perceives other spirits,
an intriguing question is whether minds
non-biologically produced by humans
have or will have spirits; and whether
humans may artificially produce spirits
themselves. . . distinct from any
pantheist's perception of spirit in the
individual physical materials, or even
non-material ingredients, which we
compound and connect into a computer,
a robot, or life which is not kindled
from other existing life, beyond cloning,
if we achieve elements-up test-tube
genesis.

Beyond animals, plants, and other members
of the existing kingdoms of life, what
do you perceive, my friends?

And of the difference in emphasis between
spirits and souls of our current and
future creations of beings, which shall
before long include parts or forms of
ourselves?

Yours in the sacred Muse,

Your Brother Michael

By Ivan on Saturday, April 7, 2001 - 11:14 am:

Dear Brother Michael,

Your raise a very interesting question above: Why
is it assumed that awareness is the substance of
spirit... mind? Is one of a higher hierarchy than
the other? Is Spirit greater than Dream, or Mind
more than Spirit, etc.? Of themselves, I suspect
all the characteristics of cosmic existence have
varying degrees of importance, all having their
functions within the Infinity of
interrelationships that define Being, Reality,
God, the Universe, etc.; so that some spiritual
forces are higher, others lower, and some even
bad. The same with Mind, there are varying
degrees of what I would define as being mind,
everything from the simple thoughts of a flat worm
trying to avoid its enemy the fire ant, to the
musings of philosopher priests who contemplate a
universe of God. But the Dream, now that is
different, since what I call the Dream is the play
the Universe has designed for Itself, of which we
as living beings, thinking creatures, eating and
fighting and birthing of all species: That, we are
All a part of. And thus having the leisure of
having awareness within this Dream, where we are
both the scriptwriters of our own lives, and the
players in those of others, we are privileged to
participate in this Dream with our own thoughts
and dreams. Of course, some of us would like to
be aware of this, conscious of our play, while
others are perfectly happy doing without. Our
choice. And those who choose consciousness, with
a mind, it can be a joy indeed!

And what about Artificial Spirits?
It is a cliche of sorts, that pets often resemble
their masters, or vice versa. Can a
transmigration of spiritual energy then leach
through even to machines? I like to think so, in
my imaginings. I believe that the car I drive, my
bicycle, my garden shovel, even my computer, have
all absorbed some of my energy, and thus are happy
to be with me. This is fanciful, in the extreme,
but I remember visiting places I had lived, long
after, and feeling that my energy was no longer
there, and that the warmth and joy I felt there
once upon a time was now gone. This is not to
take away from the machine's own energy, which it
may have for either good or ill. I do not care to
be superstitious or fear that my machines may
have evil intentions towards me, but I have had cars
that upon receiving my repair bills almost
believed they hated me. But I joke. I do not
think machines have souls of their own, rather
they absorb through a kind of transmigration the
energy that is around them, and then like an
electric force that dissipates with time, they
lose it. I have no scientific proof to back this
up, at least not consciously aware of any in my
mind, but that would be my feelings around it.

Always good to hear from a fellow spiritual being
traveling this human sphere,

Ivan Alexander

Ivan and all our friends,

Who are the dream of Brahma to whom dream is given to the dream in our corroborees:

"some spiritual forces are higher, others lower, and some even bad": ah, yes, the noun "evil spirit" comes to us here out of your voice!

"then like an electric force that dissipates with time, they lose it": yet never all of it; of course they are also absorbing energy from everthing else around them, and your contribution is contextualized; as you do.

Natalie is a very special human being, spiritual and dedicated to the teachings of St. Francis. I'm sure you would like her, especially if you are animal lovers too. In the mountains at Glorietta, New Mexico, near Santa Fe, she founded this sanctuary for animals, rescued from the 'death chambers', and then adopted around the nation.

UNDERSTANDING ANIMALS.

Understanding animals is easy. All you need to do is let them understand that you understand them, and they will understand this in return. A friendship is established, and they will then watch your every move; and in their own way, they will let you understand them, without having to resort to language. It is not so different for people, though we can use language, where animals cannot. But a true friendship is established.

I watched my two wolf-dogs this long weekend while we were hiking in the hot Anza-Borrego desert. When it was time to leave, Gentle, the female, had so fallen in love with where we were staying that she would not get back into the truck. So I had to coax her, make believe we're about to take another walk, showed her the leash, but nothing worked. I even drove the truck away to a shady spot near the entrance, and she still resisted. So I came back with her brother, Karu, who was ready to leave, and we 'talked' in a manner of speaking. She finally crawled out from her hiding place and joined us in the truck. I had to let her understand that I understood her, and that it was okay with me, but that she had to understand that it was time to leave. And we did... smart dog!

IF ONLY THEY COULD TALK... they probably wouldn't shut up!

Dog's verbal tricks probe origin of language

The neuro-circuits are already in place for comprehension, so only small step from talking if mechanism is in place. Though, like humans falling out of practice with a foreign language, not used means also undeveloped, though potential exists. What would they say? Well, besides the usual barks and howls, there might be some clever twist of phrase to make us sit, or stand, or have us at least go for the leash... or... "Stay!"

KARU AND GENTLE TELL THEIR COYOTE TALE

dear c.... mistress, our friend,

woll, you know iam a lover, not a fyter, and my grandmother wos all woolf. days are short now, and gentle and i were busy finishing cheken from over the wall, when our dear deafmute neighbor throws it at us, we like him, when master said were going jogging by the river. we barked with exitment, even if our bellies were full of cheken, from eating raw bones at nite too, be we said well go. 'wooof wooof'. it wos olmost dark, but still light in the sky, so we got there by the river where the bridge is across, no woter, very dry river, no ducks, no birds, no nothin. so master runs slow, gentle stays with him, but i wos sleepy from all the cheken so stayed back, it was late, olmost dark, so i ran more slow than master. they were far away when i heard quiet paw steps behind me, and there were three coyote jakals looking at me. i could hear their talking, they said i wos one fat cheken. i wos so insulted i could not even bark a word. when master stopped and turned around, gentle too. they saw me in the dark sky with three jakals going around me, so master ran back and yelled. 'hoorh-heyr-haarh', almost barking. the jakals stopped to look at him, but not run away. he yelled again and picked up a rock and thru it far so it made a noise. then the jakals decided it was not worth the trouble, so they ran back down to the dry river, with no ducks. they were skinny. then i ran after gentle and master, and we kept joggin, though i wos tired and full in the belly.

now it was dark, so master turned around, gentle staying close to him, but i fell back again. then the jakals came again, and now they anoyed me, so i barked at them, but they were not afraid of me, just kep sayin fat checken. master stopped and came back with gentle, but the jakals were not afraid of them aether, since they really wanted to eat fat chekens, but there were no ducks, exeppt me. master yelled again, and he sounded angry now at the three jakals, so he picked up a very big stone and thru it at them. it made a big noise and sparks of fire, two jakals ran away, but one was not scaired, so master thru another and charged this brave jakal and yelling, and finally he left too, but not far. it was dark, so master ran more slowly and kept saying to me 'stay karu, gentle stay' with him, so we did. i know i smelled like cheken, gentle too, but this wos no reason to call us chekens, because we are woolfs. anyway, master is a bigger woolf, bigger than hungry jakals, who ate no duks, and no chekens tonite. next time we run in the sun. woll, iam no fyter, and lover, but iam no cheken.

karu * gentle *

ps: my big brother kary was really skared but he never said so. i wanted to helped him, but i also was tired from all the chicken we ate, and he ate much more than me. it would have been fun to chase the coyotes to the river, but it was dry. anyway, i had a headache.

DO ANIMALS HAVE EMOTIONS?

See
http://www.sanctuaries.org/
and http://www.animalplace.org/

These two sites will show that our common 'anthropomorphic' misconceptions on animals are misplaced, and ignorant. of course they have emotions, and we had been to emotionally repressed to know this. Now there are people who are breaking through the 'anthropormophic' barriers, to reveal what truly beautiful beings they are, even the common farm animals.

Animals have not only emotions, they also have souls.
